Rent Supplement Program
WHAT IS RENT SUPPLEMENT?
The Rent Supplement Program is a State-funded program. It helps eligible families pay part of their monthly rent. Each family must pay at least 30% of their adjusted family income for rent. The difference between that amount and the total monthly rent, up to a maximum of $250.00 per month, is paid directly to the owner or his agent. The rental unit is inspected to determine that it is a standard unit.
WHO CAN QUALIFY?
Each family must meet the following requirements:
1) Must be renting a proper size unit for their family size.
2) Must provide reasonable assurance that they can pay their rent on time.
3) Must not have any outstanding debts owed to the Hawaii Public Housing Authority.
4) Must be a resident of the State of Hawaii.
5) Must not own or have majority interest in a dwelling unit on the same island on which they seek Rent Supplement assistance.
